Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle previously this season.

His defensive play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved 4 early chances in a close third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
