A person who laced candy with sedative and provided them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offences against two children both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "This year his family member had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel said items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police once more.
She explained the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
