PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
